Demonology is, as its name suggests, the study of demons: which prompts the question, what a demon is According to the Catholic faith demons are angels that were cast out of Heaven by God during the rebellion against God lead by Lucifer. There are several levels or hierarchies of demons, each with different powers. Other faiths may have different concepts of what demons are. Demons are evil inhuman supernatural beings of intelligence and power. They have the ability to invade our homes, attach themselves to objects and cause both mental and emotional torture by attacking or possessing humans. They can change into any shape they wish, from humans to animals, before your very eyes however they never appear perfect there will always be something missing or disfigured. They are neither male nor female, but will change to whatever meets their need at the time. They have never lived so have never died and they have been around since the dawn of time. They posses knowledge of the past the present and the future. Demons are commonly seen as black masses standing in doorways or in corners of the room. They have a hatred for mankind and think of us as lowly and stupid. Most demonic entities like a challenge and are incredibly conniving; they will have you believing they are good spirits or may appear to have gone away, only to confront you again at the least expected and most vulnerable moment. Their main goal is to break down a person's free will in order to make way for possession. This can take days, months or years, but time is of no concern to them.
A demonologist is a person who actively pursues demons and other nonhuman entitles both for study and to help people rid them from their lives. Usually demonologists are very religious people as they believe strongly that only faith has the power to combat a demon. They are also usually schooled and or experienced in the field of psychology and mental health. Active pursuit of demons and demonology is not something to be tried for fun or kicks as serious injury - both physical and mental - can occur! Once you start down this path your whole being is at risk.
